Development of this Office / Research Park required crossing of Robinson Brook, a tributary to the Rumford River. Master planned and permitted in 1987 for 750,000 square feet of development, extreme erosion control measures were taken to minimize the impact of the access road to the stream crossing. In addition, the drainage and stormwater infrastructure for the access road included deep sump catch basins, filter strips, bioretention cells, and wet ponds, maintaining water quality to the stream and adjacent wetlands. Where subsurface soils permitted, storm drainage from the building roofs was infiltrated into the ground, recharging the ground water. The mitigation measures used on this development were way ahead of its time, and meet sustainable site design standards in effect today.
